Harmlek Cafe's Kunafa
I never heard of Kunafa before until Kim told me to try it since there is a newly opened store in Al Mouj, Muscat – Harmlek Café: The Real Taste of Kunafa.
What is Kunafa, anyway?
Kunafa is a sugar-soaked pastry that is common in Arabic countries, especially during Ramadan. It is layered made with long, thin strands of shredded kind of dough, filled with either cheese or cream then topped with ground nuts, traditionally, pistachio.
Taste Test: Kunafa by Harmlek Café
Harmlek Café only offers kunafa and hot & cold beverages. They have a variety of toppings to choose from for kunafa.
In our case, we opted for ice cream (as suggested), chocolate, cheese and keshta (a type of pastry cream). We chose a couple of different toppings because they allowed us cutting one whole into four parts. it was great, was not it? It was served with sugar syrup on the side for extra sweetness!
I liked the kunafa choco and keshta. The cheese was okay and not a fan of their kunafa ice cream. I didn’t like the flavor – kulfi (not sure). Nevertheless, I loved how hot, gooey, and tasty it was.
We also ordered their Moroccan Tea. We have tried this kind of tea before in another coffee shop and let me conclude, they both quite tasted differently. This one was like green tea, though.
